We've arrived...Flat details and Whole Foods...

So...we got here Thursday morning... I was pretty much numb (emotionless) about the move. It was really weird. If you know me, you know that that's not really my style...not how I roll... So I had a feeling things would change when we arrived... and they did... I cried most of the day. Yep, there, I said it, I cried. In my defense I have never really lived outside middle TN and so I think a few tears are to be expected.

We got in the old timey looking taxi with all 8+ bags (Mike hated how I packed) and off to Notting Hill we went...We arrived at Foxton's to pick up our keys and then a couple blocks later we were at our "flat" (apartment) when Mike opened the door and the taxi drove off I knew this WAS FOR REAL. (insert tear)

We go inside and realize that we have no heat. (insert tear) IT WAS A COLD FIRST NIGHT. We made a call and by night #2 lets say we had LOTS of heat. We are basically walking around inside like we are in the tropics. Oh yeah, did I mention we have "communal heat"? Yeah thats where we DONT control the thermostat ourselves... so instead now when its too hot we have to raise a window.

Day 1 I walked around by myself while Mike worked. I walked 20 minutes and then out of no where stood before me a 3 floor WHOLE FOODS STORE ~ so I quickly went in to check things out. ~ the first thing I noticed was the sign for the "Reserve Your Canadian Thanksgiving Turkey Today" ~ but most importantly they have bacon. Thats all I really care about.

Ok back to the details about the "flat":
2 bedroom, 1.5 bath, living/dining room/ kitchen and a foyer. Its very "rectanglish" so the place feels alot bigger than it really is. The upside is we have closets and every room has a window! Which is a luxury in the W11 3BT. Our beds lift up and you have storage where a box spring would usually be.

The washer/dryer combo thing (by combo I mean the washer is the same machine as the dryer, its in all in one type thing) is pretty much ridiculous. It takes 3 hours to do a load of anything and it doesnt really dry anything. This will take some getting use to. Oh yeah, and its located in the kitchen.

We have mastered the stove top, but definitely not the oven. We cant seem to figure that out. We have to call someone about that tomorrow.

We are getting several american shows: Modern Family, FlashForward, CSI, Law & Order, etc... and a lot of old ones...

I watched "X Factor" the equivalent to our American Idol - I know now why they love american music over here - eesshh! hardly anyone was any good at all...

this is turning into a book so I will end for now...When we get the internet set up I will post pictures.

xoxo,
Cheerio!

  2. You go girl! It's going to be an adjustment, but you're strong! And there's bacon! Maybe you'll find a nice neighbor to leave you anonymous Christmas presents and invite you to play kickball with them.
