Cape Town

The next adventure was Cape Town.  Before booking the trip Mike wasn't really thrilled about Cape Town, but I had done enough research to know that I was going to stand my ground and keep pushing Cape Town as one of the legs of our trip until he said Yes!  I'm so glad I did because Cape Town and its surroundings just may be the most gorgeous place on earth.  It is at least #1 in our book.

Cape Town has a mix of everything... the V&A Waterfront district where you can catch the ferry (45 minutes) to Robben Island where Nelson Mandela did the majority of his prison sentence, Table Mountain which is in the running to be one of the 7 wonders of Nature, Camps Bay (the area where we stayed) which could possibly be the windiest place on earth, about an hour/+ drive away you have Long Beach which is the prettiest stretch of white sandy beach that I have EVER seen, a bit further you have Boulders Beach which is home to a penguin colony and they are SOOO cute and very protected by the community, Boulder Beach is also full of what else... big ass BOULDERS on a beach, it is much smaller than I had thought it would be, but still oh so beautiful! That was the most "postcard" perfect drive that I have ever taken. Loved it!! Hermanus is about 1.5 hour away from Cape Town and there you can spot whales, but the day that we wanted to go it was too windy so none of the boats where going out for whale watching so we unfortunately missed out on that... oh well... we'll see big whales another day... after all we had just spotted the Big 5 and a whole lot more just days before on a safari...

Beautiful Camps Bay

The view of Cape Town & Table Mountain from Robben Island... It was a bit windy that day can you tell?

Glen Beach

V&A Waterfront... don't eat or drink in this area... we had a bad experience twice...

South Africa beer sampler... umm.... why is there a Peroni in there?

Freezing on top of Table Mountain... looking over at Lions Head and the city of Cape Town... we were pretty much in the clouds... seriously!

Gilligan (me) and the window of Nelson Mandela's cell

Nelson Mandela's cell... this is not what it looked like when he was living in it...

another view from the top of Table Mountain

Beautiful Beautiful Long Beach! I think its something like 33 kilometers long? you can even ride horses on it.

homes along Long Beach

Boulders Beach

Penguin Colony at Boulders... neighboring town is Simon's Town... it looked cute wished we would of planned to check it out beforehand...
If you are looking for a driver while in Cape Town I'd call our guy Moses at # 021 430 4444....  www.campbaycars.com....  Chauffeur Drives, Airport Transfers, Tours...
