Barcelona: Fun, Sun, Protest and Bird Poop?

Barcelona was so much fun and very relaxing.
Too cute! A dog gettin' his pose on

A stroll by the beach
yes, that is a tree house that one of the many protesters lives in during the protest over unemployment in the city center. I actually saw 2 tree houses both with mattresses.  I also saw a bird eating another bird in the fountain, but I think I'll not show that picture. Its gross.
yep, thats really a naked man walking on the beach. His shorts were under his arm. He was the ONLY nude person on the beach.
Very cute egg stand at the fabulous food market
Ummm... is that? Yes! eeekK! eww!
Gaudi designed this beauty

Another Gaudi beauty. The roof of this one resembles the scales of a dragon
Elvis? Is that you?
Barcelona victory celebration in La Rambla ~ The red to the right is where someone just set off a flare. A flare?! We had just walked off right before they set the trash can to our left on fire.

I'm pretty sure this kid woke up sore the next day
Uh oh! Yep! That's fresh bird poop alright. Sorry, dude!

Barcelona: Lolita Taperia

Barcelona: Lolita Taperia
Lolita Taqueria ~ 104 Tamarit ~ basically all bar seating and the red rope means its full so start forming a line.

Left side~ where all the grill and dessert stuff happens
Right side ~where all the drinks and fried stuff happens
One of our favorite things that we found during our trip was Lolita Taperia (formerly known as Inopia)  I read a blog that recommended this place so I had to check it out.  By the way, it doesn't open until 7pm and is closed Sunday and Monday.  If you get there past 8pm be prepared to wait in line.  We don't like lines so we were there right at 7pm and got seated immediately.  They even have under the bar hooks for your purse!

The staff were excellent.  Friendly and efficient.  Place was very clean and have no complaints. Well, other than I want to go eat there every night now and can't because I don't live in Barcelona.  It had a great neighborhood vibe

Let me take you through our food journey at Lolita Taperia:

Speaking of drinks look at my tiny beer, to be exact it is a 1 glop Moritz ~ beer sizes were in glops~
Tasty fried chicken covered in potato chips dipped in a honey mustard vinegary dip
Fresh homemade mozzarella with tomato chutney and black olive tapenade on a bed of rocket with oil and vinegar

Fried Baby Green Peppers! OMG! These were SOO good~ We ordered "5" plates~ Seriously!

Mini hamburger with cheese and some kind of tarter sauce

Fresh pineapple drizzled with molasses and sprinkled with lime zest~ YUM!
Wild strawberries drizzled with a homemade caramel sauce and sprinkled with orange zest! YUM! and YUM! We ordered 2 of these!
Thanks for all the tasty food Lolita! Great place! We miss it already.
We liked it here so much we came back the very next night!
Best food we had in Barcelona.

Hotel 1898: Room 309

Barcelona, Spain
located on the La Rambla
Perfect location!

Hotel 1898 lobby

We stayed in Room #309, it had an awful view. However, the decor of the room made up for that. It was not a huge room, but it was so well decorated that we didn't even care.  It was noisy at night.  If we were to ever stay here again I would not stay in Room #309 again due to the noise at night.  It wasn't even the street noise it was music coming from somewhere? maybe a club? a restaurant? not sure...
Room #309
The staff were nice and don't really have any complaints except that they didn't show the game in the bar even though they had a tv... weird... We did get free wi-fi which is always a nice thing!  Breakfast was 21 Euros per person so we skipped it and went to Starbucks next door. Yeah, I know... but it was right there and we knew we would not be disappointed.
Room #309
The mirrors on the door were very clever and useful

Barcelona!

We just got back from a fantastic weekend in Barcelona!  We just happened to be there when Barcelona beat Manchester United in the Championship soccer game.  La Rambla came alive after the victory and we were right in the heart of it all. I'll be posting pictures once I get our laundry under control.

As always, I have SO much to share and don't know where to start.

I think I will start with the cool roof top pool/terrace area of our hotel (Hotel 1898 located on La Rambla)
