Stonehenge

Stonehenge, a prehistoric monument located in the British Isles.

It was constructed in 3 main phases:
3050BC (5,050 years ago) the circular ditch & bank (a henge)
Circa 2600BC (4,600 years ago) the wooden structure constructed at center.
2500-1500BC (4,500-3,500 years ago) Stone Monument constructed, arranged and re-arranged over almost 1,000 years.

The larger stones in the circle are Sarsen stones, brought from the Marlborough Downs 19 miles away and the smaller stones, known as the Bluestones, are from the mystical Preseli Mountains in Wales, 240 miles away.

Keep in mind these people moved these stones 240 miles BEFORE THE WHEEL WAS EVEN INVENTED YET! THE WHEEL PEOPLE, THE WHEEL. They rolled them on trees and pulled them with rope for 240 miles!

On the day that we visited Stonehenge, I was excited, I mean after all it IS one of the mysterious wonders of the world. Mike didn't seem all that excited, he even went so far as to tell me that I would be disappointed. I merely replied "Whatever Mike". However, when we got there his attitude changed, even in all that 30 mph wind and rain, I could see him smiling and the excitement was there. After all IT IS STONEHENGE and WE were there seeing it with our very own eyes.

At one point the wind was so strong, I told Mike that we should probably go, that I didn't think the spirits wanted us there any longer.

We "really" do not know why that Stonehenge is there and may never "really" know (although some have their ideas), but I do know that a group of people many years before I put them there.
They rolled thousands and thousands of tons of stone for 240 miles (roughly Nashville to Atlanta) by pulling them with rope while rolling them on trees and mere body strength. That kind of dedication is rare and very impressive and for that I will respect the Stonehenge.

Cheers to Stonehenge and the many burial mounds around it!

P.S. No one copies my rolled up jean look above...it was muddy due to all the rain... Lucky jeans dont need to me wading in the mud Stonehenge mud or not.
