Chilango

Dear Zagat,
I completely disagree.  I recently ate at Chilango on Fleet Street and was disappointed.  I got rice when I asked for no rice "TWICE", the chicken was a bit fatty (gross and unacceptable!) and they charge a £1 for a spoonful of guacamole (not good and not worth it...their chunks of red onion were WAY too big for gauc...not to mention some kind of heat coming from it...whats up with the spice?? not needed...not wanted in gauc.)... I got it to go and sat in a cute park along the Embankment and dug into this burrito that I have heard so much about.   My opinion...It was average at best. #1? No way.

Tortilla Mexican Grill still has you beat by a mile or more.

Tortilla

Tortilla Mexican Grill
Medium Burrito: £4.95
Large Burrito: £5.95
2 Tacos: £4.30
As you know I've been on a Mexican food hunt for a while now... So far... Tortilla Mexican Grill wins!

The best burrito in London. Hands down. End of discussion. I had the chicken and Mike got the steak and we were both in Burrito Heaven! Great price and even better taste.

They even do a 5 Corona for £12 bucket. Not to shabby for London.  They have 5 locations around London so check out their site and go eat one right now. You heard me, RIGHT NOW. They are just that good.

Forget Chilango... Forget Benitos Hat... Tortilla is where it's at people! YUM!

Benito's Hat Mexican Kitchen

I'm on a mission to seek new and delicious Mexican food in London...

Here is my latest find

It's a go to the counter and order and build your own taco, burrito, etc... concept. Like Chipotle if you've ever been to one...  I ordered 2 braised chicken tacos and a bottle water and the bill was right around £5 (approx. $7.60) and they give you a splash of chips on the side.

What did I think?
  • Fair prices
  • Nice staff
  • Clean facility
  • Corn Tortilla on the almost stall side
  • Tomatoes were a bit hard/not ripe enough
  • Black Beans were delicious
  • Guacamole looked chunky like I like it but on the verge of turning brown on them...
  • Braised Chicken was tender and very good
  • They also have 2 For 1 Margarita's during Happy Hour
  • They also sell beer and provide tap water
Would I go back? Yes, more than likely.

Where are they?
They have 2 locations:
1) Soho on New Row (Thats the one I went to)
2) Goodge Street

Opening times: Sun - Wed 11:30-22:00, Thurs - Sat 11:30-23:00

Cheers,
WMMc
