Last Friday we took off for a short weekend trip to Nice (pronounced "niece") and a day trip to Monte-Carlo (Monaco). I had always wanted to visit so Mike finally caved and said he'd go.
Nice is a place you really just go to if you just need to get a way. It doesn't have a lot of attractions to keep you busy so after you visit Castle Hill (great views), Notre Dame (beautiful at night), and the Modern Art Museum (wanted to, but never made it there) you really just have the options of 1) hang out on the rocky beach with a tasty beverage or 2) hang out at one of their many cafe's with a tasty beverage :) This makes it a perfect location to just go and relax (something Mike seriously needs to do because he's a workaholic).
We stayed at the Mercure Nice Promenade Des Anglais (room 328)... Would I stay there again? Probably Not, but maybe. Great location though and for just a two night stay it was good enough. The lobby was lacking any style, the hallways were almost prison scary, but the rooms were Ok. Our room did have a decent view of the ocean!!

Now for a few pictures:

I forget the name of this square...sorry... but I did think these glow in the dark guys were cool... |
Did we like Nice? Yes
Did it blow us away? No
Were the people nice (hee hee)? yeah, for the most part
How's the shopping? eeh, not so great.
Would we go back? If still living in London I would because its a 2 hour nonstop flight and a great weekend getaway in September (fewer tourist and its still warm!)
Would we go back if living in the States? No
Will I tell you about our day trip to Monaco? Yes! Next time... the train ride alone is pretty funny.
I love the sets of questions you answer at the end. Very helpful.
